Neptune Gallery is delighted to continue its commitment to international art by inviting six artists from Taiwan, Japan, and Korea to participate in a group exhibition titled “The Future Ark.” This exhibition will kick off a series of artistic events in the second half of 2024, showcasing the diversity and creativity of contemporary Asian art. The theme, “The Future Ark,” is inspired by William Gibson’s seminal 1986 science fiction novel Neuromancer, a cornerstone of the cyberpunk genre. The novel explores the complex relationships between technology, identity, virtual worlds, artificial intelligence, and the human psyche, influencing literature, music, film, and visual aesthetics. Through the lens of this novel, we delve into the unknown aspects of contemporary art, envisioning the future and challenging our understanding of reality. The exhibition will run from June 22 (Saturday) to August 11 (Sunday), and we warmly invite you to attend.

Before the advent of the internet, Neuromancer predicted and led people into a dark, chaotic, yet intriguingly unknown future, depicting the symbiosis of humans and technology where virtual reality becomes an alluring yet dangerous part of life. The participating artists use current elements to depict unknown imaginings, some of which predict the future of contemporary life, forming the foundation of this curatorial endeavor. Topics such as technological indifference, war, the metaverse, virtual currency, digital identity, and AI are addressed, posing reflections on the present and future through the lens of art. Under the theme of “The Future Ark,” the exhibition navigates the unknown, inspiring the future as its core proposition.

The six participating artists hail from different Asian countries. From Taiwan, Maria Barban, a Taiwanese-American, explores themes of identity, digital waves, and religious texts, often using color separation and surreal landscapes to establish her unique artistic style. Yi-Ju TSAI, the first winner of the CTBC Contemporary Painting Award, blends digital technology codes with the nostalgia of the 1980s and 1990s, combining them with contemporary issues and reflections. Korean artist DOY depicts a unique worldview that spans the spiritual dimensions of the technological era, exploring the virtual and real in soul-searching quests. OTA captures everyday scenes of interaction between nature and people, presenting a dynamic narrative style with a distinctive color aesthetic that expresses a harmonious balance between movement and stillness. Japanese artist Kanno RYOTA combines diverse media with traditional sculpting techniques, capturing the trajectory of light and recreating the natural essence of light in sculpture. Kana MIYAMOTO uses delicate and humorous strokes to translate symbols into strong visual tension, showcasing the multifaceted nature of humanity and the complexity of the human soul.

We look forward to welcoming you to this exhibition, where these artists will guide us on a journey through the vast seas of contemporary art, navigating towards the unknown horizons of the future.
