Life is messy and beautiful, hard and humbling. It’s a collection of moments, a capture of everything.

這次榮幸邀請到六位藝術家- Zdenek Konvalina(捷克)、陳莉Kebeyo(上海)、傅寧(台灣)、Eve Suh(韓國)、Eric Stefanski(美國)和David Rosado(葡萄牙),共同呈獻日常轉化為藝術創作的全新宇宙。

On view from May 4th to June 30th, 2024, Rich Art Gallery presents “Beautiful Chaos by ____.”, a mesmerizing group exhibition that uncovers the beauty of life – a collection of the highs, the lows, the confusion, the becoming. The exhibition title was intentionally designed with “by ____.”, a space behind to emphasize how art liberates everyone’s thoughts and make a statement about the boundless freedom of art. Featuring six artists – Zdenek Konvalina (Czech Republic), Kebeyo Chen (Shanghai), Fu Ning (Taiwan), Eve Suh (Korea), Eric Stefanski (America) and David Rosado (Portugal) – the exhibition collectively presents viewers with a universe in which everyday experiences are converted into artistic creations.

Zdenek Konvalina externalizes the melodies that flow within his heart through unique brushstrokes and vibrant colors as if one were melting by the surrounding classical music; Kebeyo Chen skillfully intertwines hidden emotions and energies of the soul through the special elements that recur in her works, capturing the imagination of viewers and offering a wholly new visual experience; Fu Ning utilizes the interaction between real-life and the Internet to convey the concept of a “new reality”, created fresh perspectives and connections; Eve Suh’s ceramic sculptures created a fantastical realm that embodies her expression of life, warm and beautiful yet delicate; Eric Stefanski’s unconventional and straightforward language shows a rendering of life and confronts the reality with a dark sense of humor; the variety of materials applied by David Rosado highlighted the uniqueness of individual within the environment, as well as the greater significance of objects can hold in our dailies.

Life is both a beautiful chaos and a chaotic beauty. Perhaps things may appear to be a mess, but in reality, they are all gracefully arranged, and that’s why life continually brings surprises and excitement. The vibrant works in the show, which span from paintings to sculptures, figurative to abstract, symbols to landscapes, are a celebration of the authentic moments of daily experiences. This group exhibition invites viewers to be fully immersed in these exceptional pieces.

Zdenek Konvalina was born in the Czech Republic in 1979 and currently resides and works in Berlin, Germany. His artworks focus on the process itself. In addition to relying on immediate feedback from the body and mind, he seeks to materialize concepts, thoughts, forms, memories, and suggestions from the subconscious. He focuses on exploring the proportion relationship between material and spirit, such as the blurred and the clear, the distant and the close, movement and stillness. By using various tools such as spray paint, airbrushes, brushes, and oil pastels, he continuously generates variable traces. Eventually, each painting forms its own unique imagery, situation, and story.

His paintings have been included in solo and group exhibitions in London, Berlin, Eindhoven, Copenhagen, Munich, Vienna, Hamburg etc. Before fully devoting himself to a painting practice, Konvalina accomplished a distinguished career as a performing artist, performing and working around the world in America, Asia and Europe and winning numerous awards for his artistic achievements such as the Rolex Award Toronto 2008 and National Dance Award in the UK in 2012. As part of his portfolio, Konvalina also has been commissioned to design sets for ballet projects “Impermanence” in Florence in 2010 and “Drops” at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin in 2017, as well as Live Performance/Painting with Guelph Symphony in Canada.

Born in Shanghai in 1984, Kebeyo Chen graduated from Shanghai Normal University’s Fine Arts College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. “Immerse yourself in this colorful world. It is a lifelong exploration and endeavor about how to grow our inner selves.” she said. Her look conveys the idea that every existence is distinct and shaped by self-consciousness. Kebeyo produces small components, such as braids, pomegranate blooms, and seeds, to praise the glory and beauty of life and to depict unlimited energy within her fictional world. In her artistic endeavors, she transforms those elements into charming little characters and adds a richer depth to her painting, like a wonderfully vibrant world full of vitality.

Her artworks have been displayed in Singapore, China, Italy, America, and other places. It is our pleasure to have her in Rich Art Gallery to showcase her unique and captivating artworks, which transport viewers to her vivid and surreal fantasy realm.

Fu Ning

Fu Ning was born in Taoyuan, Taiwan, in 1995, and received her master’s degree from Taipei National University of the Art Department of Fine Art in 2023. Her art may be interpreted as a mirror of the modern world, in which social media is used to continuously photograph and record our daily lives. Her paintings are based on her experiences navigating in a sea of overwhelming information, mostly from the Internet. Therefore, the scenes in her paintings are similar to those we encounter every day. She has created a new visual universe through her artistic endeavors that form our identities in a virtual world where nothing is truly virtual.

Fu Ning has received numerous awards in the past decades, including the 2024 Tainan Next Art Award, the 2022 SANCF Award, the 2021 CTBC Contemporary Painting Award, the 9th Grand View Emerging Artists Award, and the 2021 Contemporary Art Prize. Rich Art Gallery is honored to present her pieces in the group exhibition for the first time.

Eve Suh Girl with long hair and Cat Girl 13×21×35cm Cat 22.5×19×26cm 陶瓷 Ceramics 2023

Born in 1992 in Daejeon, South Korea, Eve Suh is a young and emerging artist. The existential grief that Eve addresses in her sculptures is embodied by the disconnect between childhood imagination and reality. By employing ceramics as her medium — warm texture of color yet easily breakable; solid appearance but hollow inside — Eve skillfully captures the tension between illusion and frustration. She purposefully retains the hand-sculpted, raw texture and rough edges to illustrate how her vision of childhood aspirations failed to come true but did succeed in the art world she created.

Eve has participated in a variety of art residency programs, including those offered by the Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, India 2020; Marunuma Art Park in Japan 2023; and the Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan 2019. In the same year in 2019, she was awarded the FRANZ Rising Star Project Award. Her works are held in collections at the SAAMOORAM in Seoul, Korea, Dakshina Chitra Museum and Kalakshetra Foundation in India, and Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan. As part of our first collaboration, Rich Art Gallery are thrilled to extend an invitation to our guests and art enthusiasts to explore Eve Suh’s fantastical realm!

Eric Stefanski was born in Chicago, in 1987. His MFA was awarded by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston after he completed his BA at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Stefanski is also an adjunct professor in the Humanities Department of Morton College currently. Greatly impacted by the street art of the 1990s that surrounded around him, Stefanski’s straightforward and quirky sense of humor transferred onto canvas are inspired by his personal experiences and memories as an artist and drawing from a diverse range of themes including art history, popular culture, sports, and labor. He conveys a powerful message of reality with simplicity, guiding the audience toward complete relatability. With the raw writings, bold colors, and investigation of societal and personal themes, Stefanski’s one-of-a-kind works are a true representation of the complexity and beauty of the world around us.

As one of the rising artists in the contemporary American art scene, Stefanski’s art has garnered recognition in the United States, with his works exhibited widely and held in numerous public and private collections. His artwork is being shown for the first time in the Asia-Pacific area, and we are thrilled to share his messages with visitors at Rich Art Gallery.

David Rosado

Mixed Media on structure 2023

David Rosado was born in 1976 in Evora, Portugal, and received his fine arts degree from the university in 2004. Drawing inspiration from the overloading information that exists between people and spaces, he investigates modern behavioral and societal standards in society by his various mediums, including sculptures, paintings and installations. Rosado seeks to start a conversation and cultivate a more profound comprehension between art and life by converting commonplace objects into artistic manifestations. By transforming everyday objects into artistic expression, Rosado attempts to start a conversation and foster a deeper understanding of art and life. This is his first collaboration with Rich Art Gallery, allowing visitors to gain insight into his creative process.

Rosado began exhibiting his work at Evora’s Palacio D in 1993. Numerous public and private organizations, including Cac Malaga in Spain, Banco Ariane Rothschild in Portugal, and Bech Risvig Collection in Denmark, have collections of David Rosado’s artwork. Additionally, he won third place in the 2007 Ariane Rothschild competition and an honorable mention in the 9th Biennale in Montijo in 2008.
